Join NowSaroj Sargam arrest: In a case that has ignited widespread outrage across social media and religious communities, Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested controversial singer Saroj Sargam and her husband, Ram Milan Bind. The couple was taken into custody by the Mirzapur Police following an intense online campaign demanding action against them for creating and uploading deeply offensive content targeting the revered Hindu deity, Maa Durga.
For the past several days, social media platforms were ablaze with trending hashtags demanding the arrest of Saroj Sargam, a self-proclaimed “Birha” singer (a genre of traditional folk music popular in the Bhojpuri region). Her YouTube channel, which features a plethora of content often laced with vulgar and provocative language, became the center of a major controversy after she posted a video on September 19, 2025, containing vile and abusive remarks about Maa Durga.
This act of sacrilege, particularly disrespectful to millions of Hindus, led to an immediate and fierce backlash. As clips of the video went viral, they stoked immense anger among Hindu organizations and the general public, who viewed it as a deliberate act to hurt religious sentiments.
The Swift Police Action and Unraveling a Deeper Plot
Responding to the mounting public pressure and a formal complaint, the Madihan police station in Mirzapur filed an FIR against the singer. An intensive investigation was launched, with surveillance and cyber teams being roped in to track down the accused. The police acted swiftly, apprehending Saroj Sargam and her husband from the Madihan police station area.
According to Police Superintendent Somen Barma, the investigation revealed that Saroj’s husband, Ram Milan Bind, was not just a silent accomplice but an active co-conspirator. He was allegedly responsible for the production and direction of the blasphemous videos, making him equally culpable in the crime. “A video was uploaded on a YouTube channel by a woman named Saroj Sargam in which derogatory language was used against the deity Maa Durga. This caused a great deal of आक्रोश (outrage) in the Hindu community,” SP Barma stated. He confirmed that both the main accused, Saroj, and the co-accused, her husband, have been arrested.
Following their arrest, the couple is set to be presented in court and subsequently sent to jail. Meanwhile, there are growing calls for YouTube to take down Saroj Sargam’s channel entirely or, at the very least, remove all the offensive content from its platform.
From Blasphemy to Illegal Land Grabbing
The case took another stunning turn when, in addition to the video controversy, authorities began investigating Sargam’s assets. The Forest and Revenue Department launched a probe into a large parcel of land—approximately 15 bighas (roughly 9 acres)—in the Garhwa area, which the singer had allegedly occupied illegally.
When questioned, Saroj Sargam and her family failed to produce any legal documents or proof of ownership for the land. Consequently, officials took action to reclaim the government-owned property, freeing it from her illegal encroachment. This new development suggests that the controversial videos were only one part of the couple’s alleged illicit activities.
The swift and decisive action by the Mirzapur police, spurred by protests from organizations like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), highlights the serious nature of the offenses and the state’s commitment to maintaining religious harmony and upholding the law.
