Tejashwi Yadav: In a significant move that has electrified the political landscape of Bihar, senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and the state’s former Deputy Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav, officially entered the electoral fray on Wednesday, October 15. Filing his nomination for the high-profile Raghopur assembly seat in the Vaishali district, Yadav’s candidacy was accompanied by a legally mandated affidavit, revealing a detailed look into his substantial personal wealth and assets.

The affidavit discloses that Tejashwi Yadav, a prominent face of the opposition, possesses a total net worth of approximately ₹8.1 crore. This declaration paints a picture of a young but formidable political figure. However, beyond the staggering numbers, the document unveiled several surprising details. Among his declared possessions are an Italian-made pistol and 50 live cartridges, valued at ₹1.05 lakh, alongside modern essentials like a desktop and a laptop.

A Deep Dive into the Finances: Assets, Liabilities, and Gold

Yadav’s financial portfolio is a mix of movable and immovable assets. The RJD leader declared movable assets amounting to ₹6.12 crore, while his immovable properties are valued at ₹1.88 crore. This comprehensive declaration provides a transparent look at the resources at his command as he seeks a third term from his stronghold.

The affidavit also sheds light on the finances of his wife, Rajshree Yadav, who has declared assets worth ₹1.88 crore, which includes ₹59.69 lakh in immovable property. In terms of liquidity, Tejashwi Yadav holds ₹1.5 lakh in cash, while his wife has ₹1 lakh. The couple’s affinity for precious metals is also evident. Tejashwi declared ownership of 200 grams of gold and 2 kilograms of silver. His wife, Rajshree, possesses 480 grams of gold, bringing their family’s total gold holdings to nearly 50 tolas, a significant store of wealth.

Furthermore, the document outlines financial obligations, stating that Yadav has liabilities amounting to ₹55.55 lakh. He also has government dues totaling ₹1.35 crore. In contrast, his wife’s record shows no outstanding dues or liabilities.

A Resounding Show of Power and a Vow for Change

The nomination filing was not merely a procedural step but a massive political event. The RJD orchestrated a formidable show of strength, with thousands of enthusiastic supporters participating in a grand roadshow, signaling the party’s might and grassroots connection. Tejashwi was flanked by the party’s top brass and family stalwarts, including his father Lalu Prasad Yadav, mother Rabri Devi, sister Misa Bharti, and key strategist Sanjay Yadav.

Addressing the sea of supporters and the media, a confident Tejashwi Yadav stated, “The people of Raghopur have placed their trust in me twice before. This is my third nomination, and I am certain they will bless me again.” He channeled this personal confidence into a broader political message, attacking the incumbent government on its core vulnerabilities. “The people of Bihar are fed up with rampant crime, deep-rooted corruption, and chronic unemployment. A change is inevitable this time. Bihar will get a Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) government,” he declared, setting a combative tone for the upcoming electoral battle.
